How To Cut A Watermelon

To cut a watermelon, you'll need a large, sharp knife and a cutting board. If you have a melon baller, that can also be helpful for scooping out the fruit. Here are the steps to follow:

1. Cut off the ends of the watermelon. Using your sharp knife, slice off the top and bottom ends of the watermelon.
2. Stand the watermelon on one of the cut sides. Place your knife anywhere on the border between the red flesh and white rind. Slice downward to remove a wide strip of watermelon rind.
3. Continue slicing downward along the curve of the watermelon until all of the rind is removed.
4. Cut the watermelon in half lengthwise.
5. Cut each half in half again lengthwise.
6. Cut each quarter into slices or cubes.

If you want to make watermelon balls, use a melon baller to scoop out small balls of fruit from each quarter.
